Amazon's Online Assessment for SDE Roles: A Glimpse into the Process
I recently applied for a full-time SDE-I role through the Amazon jobs portal and was able to track my application status there. Within a few days, I received an email with a link to complete an online assessment within five days. The email also provided helpful links to guide me through the process.
This online assessment is divided into three sections: a coding round, a work simulation, and a personality test. While the coding round is 75 minutes, the latter two sections don't have a strict time limit, but it's recommended to complete all three within 3-4 hours.
Coding Round 💻
This round has two medium-level coding questions. The first question I encountered was a greedy approach problem with a provided hash code. The second question was an optimization problem, where I had to calculate the cost of converting item A to item B.
Work Simulation Round 🛠️
This round is quite interesting and differs from assessments at other companies. You'll enter an interface that simulates a real-world workspace with chats and emails from colleagues. You'll be presented with various scenarios and must choose the best course of action. These questions test your problem-solving skills, communication with team members, and your understanding of workplace ethics and discipline. One question, for instance, required me to analyze a problem and propose a solution. It's a great idea to familiarize yourself with Amazon's Leadership Principles beforehand, as they are crucial for this section. This round has 20-25 questions, and each situation can have multiple sub-questions.
Personality Test 🧠
The final round is a personality test with 25-30 questions. Each question presents two statements, and you must choose which one is more "like you" or "strongly like you." You have to select an option for each statement, which helps Amazon understand your work style and personality.
I hope this blog helps you gain a glimpse or highlight of the process, and thank you for reading the blog throughout. I'll keep posting such useful content.
